What was challenging on this project?
The biggest hurdle on this one was the location itself: an active casino. Even though we scheduled the shoot for the morning to catch the lull in traffic, casinos are never truly quiet. Between the constant ambient drone of the slot machines and people still gaming in the background, keeping that noise floor down and isolating the dialogue was a serious balancing act.
What was unique about the project
I got to get a little creative with my rigging on this shoot. I tried out a new lav placement technique I hadn’t used before, hiding the mics directly inside the actors’ hats. It worked out perfectly. The natural shadow from the brim completely concealed the capsules, so we got great, close audio without seeing a single wire. You can learn more in the video breakdown.
